Summer camp for kids with special needs in Southwest Florida

In addition to the enriching summer camp experiences, there are specialized career camps designed specifically for teens and young adults with special needs. These career-focused programs aim to provide vocational training, job exploration opportunities, and workplace readiness skills. By participating in these camps, individuals can gain valuable insights into different employment opportunities, develop essential job-related skills, and build a foundation for future career success.

Camp Sunshine (ages 6-12)

  • Where: Karl Drews Special Needs Center
  • When: June 19-July 28, 2023
  • Time: 4 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $85 per child  per week

Camp Sunshine, offered by Lee County Parks and Recreation,  offers a specialized summer camp experience for participants with special physical and/or developmental delays. To ensure a tailored program, all potential camp participants are required to undergo an assessment conducted by the department’s Special Needs staff prior to registration. To schedule an assessment, please call (239) 267-2181. Before the interview takes place, a copy of the participant’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and behavior plan will be required.

Campers with a range of disabilities have the opportunity to register in the Special Needs summer camp programs upon successful completion of the assessment. The inclusion team works diligently to ensure that each camper has a rewarding and enjoyable summer camp experience. Camp All-Star (ages 13-21)

Camp All-Star is designed for participants with special physical and/or developmental delays, providing an engaging summer camp experience. Similar to Camp Sunshine, potential camp participants are required to undergo an assessment conducted by the department’s Special Needs staff. To schedule an assessment, please call (239) 267-2181. Before the interview, make sure to have a copy of the participant’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and behavior plan available.

Camp for teens and young adults with disabilities in Southwest Florida

Upon completion of the assessment, campers with various disabilities are given the opportunity to register in the Special Needs summer camp programs. The inclusion team works closely with each camper to ensure a successful and enjoyable summer camp journey. If I Can Dream Foundation Summer Career Camp (ages 14 to 21)

  • Where: If I Can Dream Foundation, Fort Myers or Virtual
  • When (In person camp): 7 different weeks to choose from for in person. Dates TBD
  • Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Cost: student will receive a $250 Visa gift card upon completion

If I Can Dream Foundation is offering an exciting opportunity for students aged 14 to 21 with either an IEP or 504 plan to join their free summer break youth employment camp. The program, which spans 50 hours, provides a fantastic learning experience for students during their summer holidays.

The camp aims to equip students with practical skills and knowledge that can help them succeed in their future careers. By participating in the program, students can gain an edge in the job market and become better equipped to handle the challenges of the modern workplace.

Camp for teens and young adults with disabilities in Southwest Florida

Upon completion of the 50-hour program, every student will receive a $250 Visa gift card as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Center for Independent Living Animal Service Career Camp (ages 14-21)

  • Where: Center for Independent Living of Gulf Coast in Fort Myers
  • When (In person camp): Dates TBD
  • Time: 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Cost: student will receive a $250 Visa gift card upon completion

The 50 Hour Animal Service Career Camp, brought to you by the Center for Independent Living of Gulf Coast, offers an exceptional opportunity for students enrolled in school who have an IEP/504 plan and are aged between 14-21 to learn about various animal service-related job opportunities.

The program will take place in person at 7011 Cypress Terrace Suite 103, Fort Myers, FL 33907.

To register for the program, interested students are encouraged to contact their local Vocational Rehabilitation Office for referrals. Additionally, more information on Pre-Employment Transition Services, including Job Exploration, Workplace Readiness, and Work-based Learning, can be found on https://www.rehabworks.org//student-youth/student-transition.html.
