Vino Picasso: Where Art and Wine Flow Freely

Vino’s Picasso is a perfect midweek night out. Bring a date, a couple of friends or stop by for a little alone time. Local artists help you create you own master piece as you relax with a glass of wine and your favorite snacks.

You can choose your class by either the image you want to paint or by an available date, as we did. My friend Jen and I had a hard time finding a picture we both wanted to paint on a date in which we were both free. In the end, we settled on an open Tuesday. After all, we were looking for a relaxing night out, not the perfect painting to accent our home decor.

Jen, the consummate host, brought crackers, Boursin cheese and a great bottle of red wine. The evening was off to a great start.

As it turned out we picked a class offering our choice from a trio of sea shells. The instructor had a template for us to trace but encouraged us to try to replicate the design free hand. She rotated around the group of non-artists offering tips and encouragement, but mostly letting us play with the paints in what ever way felt natural to us. From time to time she would stop the class to give us the next set of instructions.

This was truly an unskilled class posing as artisans. So, I was genuinely surprised at how beautifully the entire group of paintings turned out.

Even more surprising was how differently each painting turned out.  We all started with the same shapes and color pallets. The large variance was astonishing, but that’s the beauty of art and humanity.

My goal may not have been to create a work of art for my home, but that is what I did. My sand dollar is now proudly displayed in my own private bathroom.

    1. This was a lot of fun. I had no idea what I was doing, but when I brought my painting home my daughter was really impressed. She even said, ” Mommy I didn’t know you could paint!” A great boost to the ego!

  1. Wow, that looks like a ton of fun!! Wish I was closer, but Chicagoland is a bit of a drive 😛 You’ve inspired me, though – I am going to host an art party!!! Give my guests the option to bring their own supplies or pay for me to provide them, and get together for an evening of wine and paint. FUN!!! Now to find a babysitter…

  2. This sounds so fun! I love art and love wine, so it seems like a perfect event for me. However, I’m a little far away, so I’ll have to hope that something like this crops up near me. Isn’t it amazing how different art ends up even when everyone starts on the same page? 🙂
